The plot for First Lie Wins is incredibly intricate, extremely clever, and packed with

surprises. The story opens with Evie moving in with boyfriend Ryan. Sounds innocent

enough, but there is more going on than meets the eye. Evie is secretly working for the

mysterious Mr. Smith. She is one of several pawns carrying out assignments for him that

involve painstaking research into the mark, elaborate impersonations, and risk. But the

rewards are high.

On one level, this is the story of a woman’s struggle to move from the bottom of the heap to the top of the hill. A worthy theme, but it is the telling that distinguishes this tale. The mixture of flashbacks and present-day episodes creates a marvelous interlocking, three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle, with each new piece adding a fresh, totally unexpected dimension to the story. Sometimes they lay the foundation for a future, even bigger surprise; other times they expose a seeming ‘friend’ for what he or she really is. The twists and turns will have readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish, the author reserving the most intriguing and startling stunner for the story’s final few words. First Lie Wins is a must for all fans of suspenseful mysteries.
